The Witcher IV segue temporalmente il rilascio di The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, effettuato nel 2015. Con il nuovo titolo CD PROJEKT RED chiude di fatto la trilogia costituita tra i primi tre capitoli della serie, per inaugurarne una nuova in cui il personaggio protagonista è Ciri, la figlia adottiva di Geralt di Rivia.
