Ma le fanno ancora le pci?

ehehe he dubito del fatto che su un pc che non ha porta agp si possa giocare a gta 3..non perchè non ci puoi mettere una buona scheda video ma dal fatto che sicuramente è troppo datato, hanno messo l'agp di serie dal pentium 2 in poi, se non erro..e per giocare decentemente a gta 3 ci vuole almeno un pentium 3 !! mi dispiace!! probabilmente il tuo sistema si satura già con una geforce 2 pci!

Mbhe, di serie sui pentium 2 non direi, ed è anche difficile trovare una mainboard con agp! Anche qualche pIII non ha lo slot agp (molto raro). Ma perchè, una scheda su bus pci è davvero molto meno performante di una su bus pci???

Sono di gran lunga meno performanti: infatti il connettore agp oltre a lavorare a 66mhz, fa sì che ci sia un maggiore scambio di dati tra gpu e memoria centrale. E bisogna dire che non funziona mai al massimo dell'efficienza!

I must say, I was rather suprised by the closeness of the scores. AGP edges out slightly ahead of PCI in Unreal, but hardly anything at all! The graphics looked the same in all runs using both cards. Under this test, I conclude that there is basically no difference between the cards in performance.

At this point, I ran the system through the good old-fashioned Business WinStone 97 tests. Here are the scores:

As you can see, AGP edges slightly ahead of it's PCI counterpart. But, is this performance increase worth ditching you PCI card for? Probably not.

Conclusions

In itself, AGP doesn't seem to be the ground-breaking new bus it was hyped up to be. Like all things, AGP requires software to support it and take advantage of it. In my tests, I used Windows 98, which supports AGP natively. But, for those of you not using Win98, you may have a more trouble. Along with buying the new card, you would have to update Windows 95 to support it. The necessary patches are available at the Microsoft site.

Now that I have shown that in real-world tests, AGP doesn't make that much difference, I must make mention of one more thing. As new cards are developed, the best ones will of course make use of the newest available bus, namely AGP. Therefore, you will find that AGP cards will outperform PCI cards because of this. This is simply a result of the phasing out of the PCI video card, which is bound to happen eventually. So, since the newest cards are the best, and they make use of AGP, you will probably find yourself making the switch to AGP in your next video card upgrade.
