My timeline @ 3DFX spans from Banshee to Rampage, and yes I am the bad boy responcible for DRAM timings

Yeah, that's basically what we told him... except the fact you're responsible for the DRAM timing, which could be enough for you to refound all the 3dfx video card owners of their money...

I have to let you know how the timings were done. You will have a laugh.

First you get 4 process corners of the silicon.

Then you set the static timing for the out puts using the scope, this is done over a voltage range. After you are happy, you go to next step.

The shmoo program, it tries different timing on the input side of the chip and records pass or fail result. But that is not all!!

Now you have to take the 4 process corner chips and stick them in the environmental owen. and vary temperature form 0 deg C to 55 deg, then you have to try low voltage and high voltage at 0 deg and 55 deg. After all the information is collected you make a decission on window of operation and set the timing values in the middle if you can:h.

And after all is done, they get a new DRAM vendor and you start all over again .

Or they change process parameters for the chip. It was a never ending job.
